why study the Bible

God’s Word is God’s Power

Before Moses died and while he was closing out his public ministry, he gave Israel a powerful exhortation. “Take to your heart all the words with which I am  warning you today, which you shall command your sons to observe carefully, even all the words of this law. For it is not an idle word for you; indeed it is your life.”  Deuteronomy 32:47.

When Jesus was tempted by the devil he offered this word of truth, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4.

James tells all believers to “receive the word implanted which is able to save your souls.”

James 1:21

Everywhere we look in the Bible, we hear the call to listen, know and heed God’s Word. It is food for our souls. The Bible has power to save our souls. The Bible is our life. Why? Because God’s Word is God’s power and God’s power is God’s Word.

Our Founder’s Vision at Village Schools of the Bible

The founder of Village Schools of the Bible was Monty Sholund. Thirty years ago he saw a need in the Christian community. He saw Christians hungering for God’s Word. He responded by starting a school that would help believers grow deep in their understanding and application of the Bible. Since then men and women have been brought to spiritual maturity through Village Schools of the Bible. Many serve their local churches having been equipped with God’s Word.

Rev. Sholund had four reasons why believers should study the Word of God.

  1. We should study the Bible because we are commanded to.

  2. We should study the Bible because we are expected to.

  3. We should study the Bible because we need to.

  4. Finally, we should study the Bible because we want to.

All revivals in church history are revivals of God’s Word. Every new birth is because of the power of God’s Word. Our growth and maturity as followers of Jesus Christ depends upon God’s Spirit and our knowing and applying the Word of God.

Our Mission

At Village schools of the Bible we exist to teach God’s Word and transform lives. We are a discipleship ministry built upon the teaching of God’s Word. Teens, adults, lay people and church leaders participate in classes at Village Schools of the Bible. Our school buildings are church campuses around the Twin Cities. Our teachers are skilled, experienced and godly men and women.

Do you want the Bible to change your life? Do you want to grow in Christ? Do you want to serve the local church with greater effectiveness? Then consider joining Village Schools of the Bible.
